POREZEN

The climb to 1632 metres high Porezen from the village Poče takes two and a half hours and from the direction of Zakojca two hours. On top of Porezen there is a cottage opened mainly during the summer. In March a traditional winter climb to Porezen is organised in memory of the tragic events taking place during the Second World War. The peak, which offers an interesting view of the Julians, subalpine peaks and, if the weather is nice, also the sea, is part of the Slovene mountaineering transversal and the starting point for climbs onto the nearby mountains. In the spring and summer a variety of mountainous flowers spring up, and in the spring the sounds of grouse and, lower in the woods, of capercaillie fill the air. The golden eagle can be spotted and the slopes below the peak provide a home to the chamois.
Next to the path leading to the top is a suitable takeoff point for hang-gliders and the slopes enable backcountry skiing in the winter.
